Chapter 1 – The Early Days8 Apr 2021

In March 1992, Richard & Trisha Howard began the Pathways business by trading as The International Group (TIG).

TIG comprised two companies – one focussed on international students and the other on immigration and investment.

Richard & Trisha administered the first fee-paying high school students in 1990 and their student business pioneered international education in New Zealand. Some of the families of these original students, who were from Hong Kong & Taiwan, were also their first immigration clients and remain life-long friends.

The immigration business was also one of the first such companies of its type in New Zealand and in these early days the clients were mainly from South Africa, UK, Hong Kong, Fiji and South Korea.

The business’s first office was located within the Asset Recruitment office in the KPMG Building in the Hamilton CBD.
