Chapter 4 – The International Student Programme (ISP)29 Apr 2021

March 1994: Following Richard’s involvement in assisting with the introduction of New Zealand’s first fee-paying international students to attend Cambridge High School in 1990, The International Group then coordinated all of the education institutions in Hamilton to promote the city as an international education destination. The International Student Programme (ISP) was very likely the first such promotion of international education in New Zealand.

The internet was non-existent in New Zealand at this time; computers looked like carton boxes and in the absence of the www, businesses had to rely on nicely printed brochures to reach out to potential clients. Hamiltonian’s may recognise some familiar faces in the company’s brochure which also features cameo appearances of Richard’s two (then) very young children, Penny & Tim Howard (who now works for the business in the Wellington Office).

The company is very thankful of all the support it received from these education institutions and the City in these early days.
