Ten years after we began International Student Services (NZ) Ltd and International Investment & Immigration Ltd were merged and renamed as Pathways to New Zealand Ltd.
While the international student business, mainly out of China, had boomed for the last few years the immigration business had also grown strongly.
The success of the business in opening the China education market was recognised with a Trade New Zealand Export Commendation Award.
This was the year the company launched its New Zealand-wide Chinese scholarship programme for Year 13 students.
The NZ Government expanded the Chinese student quota to 4,000 students.
The New Zealand Government introduced a pilot quota programme to open the China education market.
The International Group established The Waikato International School of Education (NZ) Ltd, or WISE English.
The business employed its first Chinese team member this year and Richard visited China for the first time.
The business philosophy of providing “pathways to New Zealand” was the plan all along.
The International Group relocated to the top floor of No 1 Bryce Street in the Hamilton CBD.
The International Student Programme (ISP) was very likely the first such promotion of international education in New Zealand.
The All Blacks travelled to South Africa to play the Springboks for the first official tour since 1976.
